About Me
I’m Mark Ralph, an independent advocate focused on helping injured workers in Alberta navigate the Workers’ Compensation system. Though the system is meant to support recovery and fair compensation, it often feels complex, opaque, and adversarial.
For 12 years, I worked inside WCB-Alberta, progressing from claims management to Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist, where I reviewed and approved wage loss supplement proposals prepared by case management. I later joined the Dispute Resolution and Decision Review Body (DRDRB); there, I examined decisions in response to requests for review, facilitated appeal hearings, and drafted formal decisions on disputed claims. That internal experience continues to benefit the claimant-focused work I’ve done independently since 2018.
My work has included psychological injuries, complex entitlement disputes, and injuries classified as either serious or severe under WCB policy. I also work with technical matters such as rate-setting, vocational rehabilitation (re-employment services), and estimation of post-accident earning capacity. Whether the issue is medical, psychological, financial, or procedural, I help clients understand their rights and move their claims forward.
My approach is grounded in accountability, trust, and integrity. Clients benefit from deep policy knowledge, insight into WCB’s internal processes, and clear, respectful advocacy rooted in administrative fairness.
I paused my practice for two years to pursue academic studies — work that further strengthened both the analytical and human dimensions of my advocacy. With that chapter nearly complete, I’m once again fully dedicated to providing skilled, independent representation for Alberta’s injured workers.
A Note on Identity
You may have noticed a disconnect between my legal name and my appearance. I’m a trans person, and I understand this can be a sensitive or even polarizing topic in today’s climate. That said, I ask that you look beyond my identity and assess me based on my character, skillset, and work experience.
I have the knowledge and ability to get the job done — and in many cases, to exceed expectations. While my focus is always on outcomes, I also understand how important it is to present issues clearly, credibly, and with respect for the decision-making process. If you’re looking for someone who understands the system and advocates with professionalism and tenacity, I’d be honoured to work with you.
